6,000 Fewer Students Registered for Exams – What’s the Reason?

CG Board 2025: In Korba district of Chhattisgarh, 22,810 students have registered for the High and Higher Secondary examinations conducted by the Chhattisgarh Secondary Education Board this session. This includes 13,367 class 10th and 9,443 class 12th registered students. In the 2023-24 academic year, 24,833 students registered for the class 10th and 12th examinations. While in the 2022-23 academic year, the number of registered candidates was 28,974. The figures show a decrease of 6,164 candidates within three years. This can be considered a significant drop in the number of candidates, or it could be said that there is a decline in students’ interest in education. CG Board Exam 2025: Officials’ Arguments Patrika Campaign: These figures are of registered candidates released by the District Education Department for each academic year’s board examination. Even so, the department does not seem to be serious about raising awareness about education among children. However, officials of the District Education Department are citing several different reasons for the decrease in the number of candidates. The officials argue that students of classes 10th and 12th in the Swami Atmanand English Medium schools operating in the district—Pump House, Hardibajar, and Pali—are appearing for the CBSE board examination. These students previously appeared for the CG Board. A reduction in the number of employees in public sector undertakings and institutions is also being cited as a reason.

Kobra District’s Sand Quarries to Remain Closed Until 15 October: Prices to Rise

With the arrival of the monsoon season, sand mining from rivers and streams has been stopped. This ban on sand mining will continue until 15 October. During this period, preventing illegal sand mining and transportation from rivers and streams will be a major challenge for the administration. In Korba district, sand is used on a large scale every year in government and private projects. Whether it is the construction of small or large buildings or the laying of concrete roads, sand is used everywhere nowadays. Its supply comes from rivers and streams. To meet the demand for sand in Korba city, sand is mainly mined from the Hasdeo River. For this, two sand ghats are operated at Charpara and Bhilai Khurd on the banks of the Hasdeo River. In addition, the Mineral Department is operating 18 sand ghats in different gram panchayats in rural areas through the gram panchayats. However, with the arrival of the monsoon season, the Mineral Department has stopped sand mining everywhere. A notice to this effect has been issued by the department to all agencies operating sand ghats, primarily gram panchayats. The department has stated that as per the orders of the National Green Tribunal, sand mining in the district will be completely banned from 15 June to 15 October this year, as in previous years. Negligent crusher plants endanger rural communities, mines act as slow poison

CG News: The dust emanating from crusher plants has become a serious crisis for rural and residential areas today. The fine dust generated during stone crushing spreads with the wind to homes, fields, and roads, directly impacting people’s health, the environment, and livelihoods. From respiratory illnesses to crop damage, the dust from crusher plants is affecting the daily lives of local residents. The crusher plants and limestone mines operating on the Khairagarh-Rajnandgaon road have created a severe environmental and human crisis in the region. A thick layer of white dust has coated the roadside trees and plants. Crop yields in the fields are being affected. According to local villagers, the uncontrolled spread of dust is due to the absence of water sprinklers and safety enclosures at the crusher plants. Vehicles moving on the highway are also struggling with the white dust, leading to reduced visibility and an increased risk of accidents. The leaves of the trees appear not green, but covered with a white layer of lime. The Fear of Blasting The blasting that occurs 2-3 times a week in the mines poses the biggest threat to the villagers. Explosions, without prior notice or announcement, cause stone fragments to reach settlements. Mud houses have developed cracks, and the elderly are constantly in fear. Villagers report that they have to leave their homes and go far away during blasting, and several accidents have occurred.

Mobile and Alcohol Addiction Putting Children and Young People at Risk of Fatty Liver; Parents Concerned, Know Prevention Tips

Fatty liver disease is becoming common among children and youth, causing concern among parents. Previously, this condition was seen in individuals aged 40 and older, but now it is affecting students aged 12 to 21. This disease is no longer limited to alcohol; it is rapidly increasing among school children, young people, and the general population. The most worrying aspect is that government hospitals, including Ambedkar Hospital, lack the necessary machinery for liver examination. The disease is being diagnosed through blood tests or sonography. According to doctors, the primary reasons for this disease in children and youth include spending excessive time sedentary with mobile phones, and consuming junk food and oily meals. Case-1: A 14-year-old student was taken to a private hospital after experiencing indigestion and mild swelling in his legs. A sonography of the abdomen was performed based on the symptoms. The report was alarming, revealing fat accumulation around the liver. Doctors diagnosed the condition as fatty liver and advised the parents to keep the child away from junk food and mobile phones. Case-2: A 21-year-old college student, who was heavier than his peers and spent a lot of time on video games and mobile phones, developed a severe issue of fluid accumulation in his abdomen. His medical history revealed that he also consumed alcohol frequently with friends. The family is administering regular medication. Reduced outdoor games, decreased physical activity, and being overweight are also major contributing factors. Over 250 patients are being treated daily in the paediatrics and medicine departments of private hospitals and Ambedkar Hospital, who are confirmed to have fatty liver. Their treatment is ongoing and lengthy. Doctors state that with the necessary diet and medication, many patients are recovering.

Korba Tragedy: Three Family Members Trapped After Well Collapse

A well collapsed in a village in the Pori Uparoda development block, causing chaos. It is feared that three members of a family – a 65-year-old farmer, his wife, and son – are trapped under the debris. A rescue operation was launched on Tuesday morning to search for them. The large amount of debris in the well is hindering the search efforts. The family, belonging to Chhotulal Shriwas, resides in Banwar village under the Khodri gram panchayat in the Pori Uparoda development block. Chhotulal (65 years), his wife Kanchan Bai (53 years), and son Govind Shriwas (30 years) have been missing since Tuesday morning. Their whereabouts and condition remain unclear. However, their well in the backyard of their house has collapsed. Govind’s slipper was found near the well. The family fears that all three have been buried under the debris. Given the seriousness of the situation, the district administration launched a rescue operation around 10 am on Tuesday. However, the entire debris has not yet been removed from the well. The depth of the well is causing difficulties in completing the rescue operation. In the evening, the Korba Collector and Superintendent of Police arrived at the scene after receiving information about the incident. They spoke to the family, gathered information about the incident, and assured them of assistance. The rescue operation continued late into the evening. Jivanram Shriwas, the elder son of Chhoturam, stated that the family owns approximately one acre of land.

Chhattisgarh Coal Mine: Village Acquired in 1964, Land Lost for Coal Price, A 60-Year-Old Story

The name of Bhilayikhurd village, located in Korba district of Chhattisgarh, is still on the lips of those whose lands were acquired in 1964-65 for the Manikpur open-cast mine of SECL (South Eastern Coalfields Limited). The land of Bhilayikhurd and surrounding villages was acquired for the Manikpur open-cast mine in the Korba Area in 1964-65. Initially, the coal production capacity of the mine was one million tonnes. In that era, fertile lands of many villages were sacrificed for government acquisition in the name of industrial development. Bhilayikhurd was one of them. The villagers had hoped that with development, they too would get new opportunities, but even after 60 years, they are still waiting for a fair policy of compensation and rehabilitation. Initially, the coal production capacity of the mine was one million tonnes. Over time, coal extraction from the mine has increased to 5.25 million tonnes annually. Earlier, coal extraction was happening at one end of the acquired area. But with the expansion of the mine, its scope has also increased. The coal extracted from the Manikpur mine has become a major source of energy for the power plants of the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Company, as well as many private industries. Due to the mine, roads, electricity, and other infrastructure developed in the surrounding areas, but stability did not return to the lives of the farmers whose land was acquired. Low compensation, limited employment, and incomplete rehabilitation – this story has been repeating for decades.

158 Assistant Teacher Posts Vacant in Chhattisgarh District, Education System Crippled… RTI Reveals Irregularities

All is not well in the government schools of Korba district. The studies of the students are being affected due to teachers being assigned tasks other than academic work. There are also not enough teachers in the schools as per the requirement. In such a situation, how can the foundation of education be strengthened? This question is being raised. The Pauriopara development block in the district is counted among the most backward areas of Korba. This block does not have a good hospital, nor schools. The condition of the roads is also bad. The news coming from the Pauriopara development block regarding education is also surprising. There are 158 vacant posts of assistant teachers in this block. Most of the schools where posts are vacant are located in dense forests. Teachers do not want to go here. This is the reason why even today there are a large number of schools in the Pauriopara development block where there is only a single teacher. Due to the lack of teachers as per the setup, the responsibility of educating students studying in more than one class rests on a single teacher. The impact on education in this block is being observed due to single teachers. A lack of quality in children’s education is visible.
